The golf MOT

Winter brings with it many challengers, and you always want to be prepared for the harsh conditions before you leave the house.

Take your car for example. You’ll only ever want to drive your car knowing it’s in top working order. You don’t want to break down in unfamiliar territory when the days are cold and dark, and you certainly don’t want to head out in your car when you don’t trust it to drive well on skiddy, icy roads.

Have you ever considered how the same mentality directly applies to your golf shoes. If you invested in a solid pair of winter golf shoes, you’ll be safe from any mishaps.

Which begs the question…

Would your shoes pass an MOT?

an-mot-certificate

It might sound like a bit of a strange question, but your car and your shoes both have a lot in common. They both transport you from A to B, and they both demand a certain degree of upkeep for you to get the most use out of them.

In the same way your car must be safe to travel the roads, your shoes must be fit for winter golf. The last thing you would want is for your car to skid or slide when the roads are in a frosty condition. You’d similarly not want to slip and fall midway through a crucial approach shot on a fairway.

Think about how often we’ve been there, standing on the tee sizing up a shot with our driver, and right when we’re ready to commit to the shot, our back foot slips in our backswing, and we completely mess up our drive.

We put winter wheels on our trolleys to get more traction with the ground, and just as tyres need an appropriate amount of tread on them to have effective contact with the tarmac each time you head out in your car, so too must your winter golf shoes have a solid underfoot grip to keep you upright through your golf swing.

If your shoes are looking a little worse for wear, there’s a good chance we’d not recommend you play with them. We do however stock some excellent winter golf shoes from Under Armour to keep your swing consistent this winter.

Do you need winter golf shoes?

As we’ve mentioned, the conditions are a lot harsher during winter, so you need a golf shoe you can trust and depend upon to help you get the most out of your time spent on the golf course. The last thing you’d want is to slip and injure yourself, so a sturdy golf shoe should be your top priority.

We want to cover briefly why golf shoes are uniquely constructed to help you play your bet golf. Winter golf shoes have cleated spikes on the sole that allow you to dig into the grass to get a solid base when you’re standing still and committing to a golf swing.

Whether you’re standing on fine grass, bushy rough, or uneven mud, these underfoot spikes ensure you’ll have a strong stance throughout your swing. You can also pick up spikeless golf shoes that offer a trainer-like feel for additional comfort as you make your way around the course.

Naturally, winter golf shoes are constructed using waterproof materials to keep your feet feeling dry and fresh should you be playing through any rain or step in any unexpected puddles. These shoes are also coated in a finish that keeps them durable from damage, and makes them very easy to clean when you get back to the clubhouse.

So, what kinds of golf shoes do we stock in the pro shop? We have the latest winter golf shoes from Under Armour that will keep you playing happily all winter long.
